Georgia State Militia

The State Militia played a significant role in helping to police the course.  Over 1600 were involved from the following organizations, all under the command of Col. M J. O'Leary:
Savannah Volunteer Guard, Savannah Cadets, Georgia Hussars, Emmet Rifles, Irish Jasper Greens, Chatham Artillery, German Volunteers, Oglethorpe Light Infantry, Naval Reserves, Republican Blues
