The Hon. Mayor George W. Tiedeman.  He was born September 11, 1861 in Charleston, SC.  Came to Savannah, Georgia in 1887 and was in the wholesale grocery business.  He quickly became President of Georgia State Savings Association.  Mayor Tiedeman was believed to the best mayor Savannah has ever seen.  He was elected in 1907, and re-elected in 1909 and 1911.  He brought the City of Savannah to 5th in the Nation in value and exports.  He was married to Floride Shivers and had two children, a son Carsten, and a daughter, Inez, who married Roy Chapin of the Hudson Motor Company (they met during the Great Races).  The Fountain in Forsythe Park was restored in memory of Mayor Tiedeman in 1961 by his children.  Photo courtesy of Horace Davies and the Tiedeman Family.
